Michigan State is hoping to pull another four-star prospect out of Western Pennsylvania, and two Spartans coaches talked with ESPN 300 athlete Tyler Boyd on Wednesday -- one in person and one over the phone.
Assistant coach Mark Staten came by Clairton (Pa.) High School to talk with Boyd. Following that conversation, Boyd spoke with Spartans coach Mark Dantonio.
The Spartans coach is hoping to get Boyd up to East Lansing for an official visit.
"He wanted me to come up on the 15 of [January]," Boyd said in a text message.
Boyd would like to visit, but that could cause a problem as he plans to announce at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 4.
The Spartans have Western Pennsylvania four-star products Damion Terry and Delton Williams of Erie (Pa.) Cathedral Prep committed and got four-star athlete Demetrious Cox out of Jeannette (Pa.) in 2012.
Boyd officially visited Pittsburgh in November and is slated to visit West Virginia this coming weekend and Arizona the weekend of Dec. 14, although the Wildcats trip will likely be canceled or rescheduled.
