This time, defensive end Kevin Kavalec (Cleveland/St. Ignatius) will take a bow to a coach from the offensive side of the ball.
When former Florida offensive coordinator and Temple coach Steve Addazio was named the lead man for Boston College on Tuesday, the 2013 Eagles commit gave a big seal of approval.
Kavalec had never thought about leaving Boston College after the school let Frank Spaziani go, but Addazio’s hiring made life a little easier for the 6-foot-3, 240-pound senior.
“It’s exciting,” Kavalec said. “He’s got a couple of national championships from Florida. He’s got unbelievable leadership.”
What caught Kavalec’s attention were Addazio’s 26 years of coaching experience and 12 bowl games -- six of which were of the BCS variety.
“I was surprised by the hiring, but I’m excited,” Kavalec said. “It’s kind of relieving to know who the coach is going to be.”
Kavalec finished his senior season with 61 tackles -- 29 for loss -- 8½ sacks, 4 fumble recoveries and 2 forced fumbles.
