Damien Prince never dreamed of this.
Just a sophomore, the offensive lineman from Forestville (Md.) Bishop McNamara already has 13 scholarship offers - from Florida State, Maryland, Virginia, Rutgers, East Carolina, Iowa, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Buffalo, Ohio State, Michigan, Boston College and Iowa.
Surprising? You bet. Even for him.
“I never expected it would happen this fast or this early,” the 6-foot-6, 300-pound member of the 2014 class said. “Recruiting is going good. I've got a lot of schools now and I can get a lot more.”
Prince was expecting offers during his junior senior season, not as a sophomore. Now he said he can't imagine just how crazy those years might be with college coaches already so interested.
Prince said Ohio State and North Carolina seem to be recruiting him the hardest.
“I think they've been showing me the most interest out of all the schools,” he said.
Prince said it seems as if Auburn, West Virginia, Purdue and Wake Forest may be close to offering him a scholarship as well.
Why is Prince so coveted? He believes it is because he's not just a run-blocker or pass-blocker.
“I feel like the strength of my game is balance,” he said. “I think I do everything very well. I think that's what makes me special, is I don't have a weakness.”
Ultimately, athleticism is what makes Prince special. He said he has run the 40-yard dash in less than five seconds.
“I also have a good strong shuttle,” Prince said.
Perhaps he should have seen this coming.
