Junior Marcell Lazard (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) has West Virginia at the top of his wish list. Problem is, West Virginia hasn't extended him a scholarship offer.
Lazard, a 6-foot-6, 290-pound offensive tackle who attended West Virginia's game against Pittsburgh last weekend, said he's hoping it's a problem that will soon be solved.
“Right now my favorite would probably be West Virginia,” Lazard said. “I like the coaching staff and love the atmosphere.
“I spoke with the O-line coach [Bill Bedenbaugh] and he told me when they're done with their bowl game there's a good chance I'll get an offer. He
said he recommended me to the head coach [Dana Holgorsen].”
Lazard currently has offers from Buffalo, Connecticut, Maryland and Virginia. He has also attracted interest from Boston College, Rutgers and Syracuse. Lazard attended camps at Connecticut, Boston College, Rutgers and Syracuse.
Lazard said Boston College assistant coach Mike Dawson was at his school Thursday.
“The BC campus is beautiful,” he said. “Academics are excellent. Very good school.
“I haven't had a chance to visit Syracuse yet, so I don't have an opinion right now. Rutgers is right around the corner from where I live. I know most of the coaching staff. Another school I would like to go to.”
