Jonathan Hilliman is the latest ESPN 300 member see Red.
The Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter’s Prep running back committed to Rutgers in a news conference at his high school. Multiple news outlets, including the Newark (N.J.) Star-Ledger, attended the event and reported Hilliman's commitment.
He is the fourth ESPN 300 prospect from New Jersey to commit this summer.
Hilliman, No. 286 in the ESPN 300, had several national offers, but it was Rutgers who was showing the most interest as his recruitment came to a close. He named Ohio State as his leader following a visit to Columbus in June, but a July visit to Rutgers propelled the Scarlet Knights to the top and Hilliman planned a commitment shortly after that visit. He canceled visits to Miami, Michigan and Vanderbilt after his Rutgers visit.
It is not the first time a nationally ranked running back from St. Peter’s Prep chose to stay home at Rutgers. Savon Huggins, the No. 4 running back in 2011, is a junior at Rutgers. Hilliman is No. 25 among running backs nationally.
Rutgers’ class of 22 commitments is ranked No. 21 nationally, although that ranking does not take Hilliman’s pledge into effect.
