Helping his team win a championship is the most important thing on his mind at the moment, but linebacker Vincent Ascolese (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) will soon turn his attention to recruiting and finalize his college plans.
Ascolese, a 6-foot-2, 218-pound senior, said he's currently considering Illinois, Cincinnati and Michigan State, but he also has scholarship offers from Buffalo, Massachusetts and Temple. He scheduled an official visit to Illinois on Dec. 16.
“They send a lot of kids to the NFL -- a lot of linebackers,” Ascolese said. “Dick Butkus played there.”
North Bergen has won back-to-back playoff games in overtime, and will face Montclair in the North Jersey, Section I, Group 4 championship game on Dec. 3.
Ascolese, who has made 123 tackles in 11 games, said he also began talking to TCU this week.
“Other than that, I'm talking with the same schools,” he said. “I'm just gonna wait and see what else I get [for offers] before I schedule any more officials. I know I'm gonna get more offers. Hopefully I'll get a couple more big ones.”
Busy weekend for Brown
Junior quarterback Boeing Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) will be taking three unofficial visits this weekend.
Brown is scheduled to visit Wake Forest on Friday morning, North Carolina State on Friday night and will attend South Carolina's home game against Clemson on Saturday. However, Brown said his preference would be to remain close to home and play for Connecticut.
New Jersey linemen headed to WVU
Three-star offensive tackle Ryan Brodie (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) and three-star defensive tackle Christian Brown (Bridgeton, N.J./Bridgeton) are among those scheduled to take an official visit to West Virginia this weekend for the Mountaineers' game against Pittsburgh on Friday.
Brodie and Brown each have more than 13 Division I offers.
