Paul Harris plans to stick with Tennessee

12/13/2012

It didn't take a face-to-face meeting with Butch Jones to convince Paul Harris that Tennessee was the right place for him.

The newly hired Tennessee coach has only spoken with Harris on the phone since he was hired last week. So has assistant coach Jay Graham. Jones was scheduled to visit Harris at his home on Thursday evening but had to reschedule to Saturday. That doesn't seem to matter. An impression has already been made.

"I'm pretty certain we we'll stay put," said Harris' mother, Tiasha Carter, via text message to ESPN on Thursday afternoon.

That's an impressive, quick sales job by Jones on one of Tennessee's higher-rated commitments. The receiver from Upper Marlboro (Md.) Frederick Douglass cited a close relationship with Tennessee's former staff as a major reason why he selected the Vols. Former Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley and every assistant except for Graham were fired following a 5-7 season in 2012.

"I think we'll be happy there," Carter said.

Harris chose Tennessee over several other schools, including Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon and USC. Jones is set to enroll in college in January.
