MONROEVILLE, Pa. -- Gateway coach Terry Smith expected 2012 would be the year his program would make another run at a WPIAL title. His young stars were seasoned juniors and seniors.
He was not expecting the addition of another pivotal piece to the defense, though. Brennan Thrift (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) joined the program before the season. So far, Thrift said the move has been a successful one and has earned starting spots on both offense and defense.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pound defensive end/linebacker already has offers from Pittsburgh and West Virginia.
