Doug Randolph commits to Notre Dame

9/7/2012

It just felt right.

Doug Randolph didn't have a exact reason why he committed to Notre Dame on Friday. The decision and announcement seemed like a natural move.

“I just felt like it was the right time for me to make the decision to go to Notre Dame,” the ESPN 300 linebacker from Woodberry Forest (Va.) High School said.

Randolph selected Notre Dame over Tennessee, Virginia, Vanderbilt, Stanford. The decision, however, wasn't a difficult one.

“There were a couple up there but I was pretty sure it was Notre Dame,” Randolph said.

Notre Dame offered Randolph the complete package but there were a couple of factors that stood out for the nation's 15th-best inside linebacker.

“I like everything about Notre Dame,” Randolph said. “The football obviously, the business school, which I'm interested in.”

Randolph visited South Bend to see the campus during the spring. He came away impressed with the environment.

“I love the campus up there,” Randolph said. “I like coach [Brian] Kelly a lot. We sat down in his office and I really liked him.”

Randolph isn't worried that Kelly's intense style might rub him the wrong way. Kelly has drawn criticism for his sideline demeanor.

“That's fine with me,” Randolph said. “I like to play fast football and go hard.”

Randolph said he isn't sure when he'll take his official visit to Notre Dame. When asked if he'll take other official visits, the 6-foot-3, 221-pound Randolph said, “probably not”. Notre Dame now has 20 commitments for the 2012 class.
