Ryheem Lockley says West Virginia leads

7/15/2012

Ryheem Lockley is taking an even closer look at West Virginia.

Lockley said he plans to visit Morgantown, W.V., this summer. While a commitment could be coming soon, Virginia is nipping at their in-state rival's heels.

“It's a wonderful school,” the athlete from Saluda (Va.) Middlesex said of West Virginia. “The coaching staff is amazing. I need to get up there again just to make sure that's what I want.

“I'm leaning there, actually. It's between UVA and West Virginia. Those were the first two teams that gave me an offer. I respect that. I'm glad they know that when they see talent, they come after it.”

Lockley was certainly one of the most talented prospects in Baltimore, Md., for a recent seven-on-seven passing camp. Even at 6-foot-3 and 218 pounds, he was able to get open often against smaller -- and supposedly quicker -- defenders.

Lockley plays receiver and safety in high school but it's reasonable to think he could grow into a linebacker or tight end in college. Yet there's even more to his athleticism. He is a two-time, all-state basketball player and a standout centerfielder for his high school baseball team.

Lockley has also received scholarship offers from Virginia Tech and Old Dominion, but those schools don't seem to be a factor now.
