As it often seems to do, a social network message has sparked questions in the recruiting world.
The hubbub occurred on Kirk Garner's Facebook page late Sunday night when he posted one short, simple message, “Aug. 24th”.
Fans from Auburn, one of the many schools Garner is considering, assumed that is when the Watch List cornerback from Olney (Md.) Good Counsel plans to announce his college decision. The fans then encouraged him to commit to being a Tiger.
In fact, Garner was just giving the date of his high school's first game of the season.
"Haha no sir,” Garner stated via a Facebook message to ESPN when asked if he was planning on announcing on that date, “that's our first football game on ESPN against Bishop (Nev.) Gorman ... could you smash all the rumors for me about me committing please haha.”
The game should be a blockbuster. Gorman won its classification in Nevada and Good Counsel went undefeated and won its conference as well. Both were ranked nationally last season.
However, there is actually some recruiting news concerning Garner. He recently picked up scholarship offers from Tennessee and Nebraska.
