Kyle Queiro (Verona, N.J./Bergen Catholic) admits to being a little nervous when he flipped the calendar to 2012 and he was still without an FBS scholarship offer. However, his situation has improved significantly since then.
Queiro, a 6-foot-3 junior who played defensive back and wide receiver last season, picked up his first FBS offer from North Carolina State in early January. He added an offer from Boston College when he attended a junior day there in late January, and landed an offer from Northwestern last Wednesday.
“The only school that has nailed down a position for me is Northwestern,” Queiro said. “They said they want me in a safety/cornerback role. I'd be fine with either side of the ball.”
Queiro, who is also a small forward on the Bergen Catholic basketball team, has also been to a junior day at Rutgers. He said he's trying to schedule a visit to Maryland, and plans to attend camps at Boston College and Rutgers this spring/summer. His father attended Rutgers.
Yale also made Queiro an offer before former coach Tom Williams resigned.
“Yale is appealing, but there are other schools, like Northwestern, that are big on education and put big-time football on the table,” he said.
Queiro said his next offer will likely come from either Penn State or Virginia Tech.
“Penn State said I'd probably get an offer once Bill O'Brien takes over full time, and all the Virginia Tech coaches hadn't seen my film but they told me I'd likely receive an offer,” he said. “Right now I just want to keep all of my options open. It's really a wide-open playing field.”
Bower will visit Ohio State
ESPNU 150 Watch List defensive end Tashawn Bower (Somerville, N.J./Immaculata) took an unofficial visit to South Carolina last weekend, and is planning to visit Ohio State this weekend. Ohio State and South Carolina are among his 16 scholarship offers.
