Buddy Brown adds two more offers

Linebacker Buddy Brown (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) added North Carolina and Wisconsin to his list of scholarship offers Wednesday.

Brown, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound junior, also has offers from Rutgers, Penn State, Virginia, Wake Forest, Mississippi State, Idaho, Pittsburgh and South Florida. He is being recruited to play either linebacker or safety.

“I'll play whatever position is best for me,” Brown said. “Whatever fits best.”

Brown said he plans to take an unofficial visit to Virginia on Feb. 18 and is trying to schedule a trip to Wisconsin as well. He has already taken unofficial visits to Penn State, West Virginia, Rutgers and South Carolina.

“Unless I find a school that really feels right for me I still plan to take all five official visits before I make my decision,” Brown said. “I don't want to make a decision and then change schools.”

Bell lands first offer

Junior defensive back Tre Bell (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) received an offer from South Carolina assistant coach Jeep Hunter on Wednesday. It was Bell's first offer.

Hunter also met with four-star safety Elijah Shumate (Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco) on Wednesday. South Carolina is among the schools Shumate considered before he committed to Notre Dame earlier this month.

South Carolina assistant coach G.A. Mangus usually recruits New Jersey, but is prohibited from off-campus recruiting in January as part of the penalties South Carolina received following an NCAA investigation of the program.
