Kyle Queiro still waiting on offers

1/6/2012

Kyle Queiro (Verona, N.J./Bergen Catholic) is one of the most versatile skill-position players from New Jersey in the Class of 2013, but that versatility has yet to produce an FBS scholarship offer.

“I had an offer from Yale, but that was before the coach [Tom Williams] was fired,” Queiro said. “I get a ton of mail, but I'm still waiting for that first official Division I offer.”

Queiro played safety, cornerback, wide receiver and returned kicks for Bergen Catholic last season. He's a three-sport athlete who also plays basketball and runs track.

He was also drawing interest from Penn State early last season and attended the Penn State-Illinois game. Rutgers, Miami and Boston College are among the other schools that have shown interest.

“I played primarily safety at the end of last year, but next year I'll be playing both ways so I really have no preference what position I play in college,” Queiro said. “I think I'm at my best in the open field with the ball, but it's fun to play defense because you can take the other team's best player out of the game.”

Queiro attended camps at Boston College and Rutgers last summer. He also has a connection to Boston College through Bergen Catholic athletic director Jack McGovern, whose brother Bill is Boston College's defensive coordinator.

“Right now I think Boston College is probably the school closest to making an offer,” Queiro said.
