TE McShea opens up his recruitment

When teammate Preston Cooper suffered a season-ending ankle injury in October, Jameson McShea (Cotuit, Mass./Boston College High) began to think seriously about his future.

The more he thought, the less confident he became in his commitment to Temple.

His uncertainty caused him to decommit from Temple last week. McShea, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end, said he's currently considering four schools: Boston College, Dartmouth, Harvard and Maryland.

“'The more I looked at Preston's situation the more I wanted to go somewhere with high academics, so I would be set after college,” McShea said. “That was kind of my reasoning. I saw coaches coming to my school to talk to other players and I wanted to see what schools would talk to me if I decommitted.”

Of the four schools he's currently considering, only Harvard has made an offer. McShea, a three-star recruit, also has offers from Elon, Fordham, Holy Cross, Maine, New Hampshire and Temple.

“Harvard did offer me, but I need to get in with academics too,” he said. “It's the same situation with Dartmouth. I have to see if I qualify academically. Dartmouth doesn't like to offer unless they know you can get into school.

“Both BC and Maryland said I would know about an offer before Christmas, either yes or no.”

McShea said there's a possibility he could still end up at Temple. He also said a year of prep school is a possibility.

“Right now I have no preference,” McShea said. “Obviously I'd like to have all of them offer. Maryland and BC are ACC schools with bigger football. On the other hand the others are Ivy League schools and I think it's pretty obvious they have higher academics.

“If I had to pick and choose, I'm not sure I could do it right now. After the next two weeks I'll have a better answer.”
