Ties to DR strengthen UK's recruiting rule

When Karl Towns Jr. gave John Calipari his latest high-profile commitment yesterday morning, many people were quick to point out Calipari coaching Towns on the Dominican Republic National Team this past summer as an unfair advantage.

The reality is that while Kentucky is undoubtedly the nation’s biggest recruiting powerhouse, their brand appeal in the Dominican Republic is even higher, and Calipari’s recent role on the national team is just one reason why.

Kentucky assistant coach Orlando Antigua is a native of the Dominican Republic and had two different stints playing for the national team from 1994-95 and again 1997-98. He has served as an assistant coach alongside Calipari for the last two years.
