NEW YORK, N.Y. -- After a month of nothing but basketball, recruits and college coaches alike tend to be exhausted by the time the final weekend of the July evaluation period rolls around. For event operators, that creates a unique challenge where they have to do a little something different to ensure the quality of their event.

For the Hoop Group’s Buzzer Beater Classic, that little something different this past weekend was Basketball City, a state-of-the-art, seven-court facility sitting on Pier 36 on the East River, just off FDR Drive and literally in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The facility, combined with the allure of New York City, created just the type of atmosphere necessary to spark a couple more days of competitive basketball at the end of a long month. Here’s a look at the top storylines that emerged from the Buzzer Beater Classic.

This was a particularly busy week on the northeast recruiting front, thanks in large part to the June 15th date which began the period when college coaches were permitted to directly contact perspective student athletes for the first time.

A number of ESPN 100 prospects, including No. 51 rising senior Kaleb Joseph, Pascal Chukwu (No. 58) and Ja’Quan Newton (No. 67), were in the headlines for landing new offers, while several other recruits bolstered their recruiting stock with new offers and visits.

Let’s take a look at the flurry of activity.

• Blair Academy (N.J.) swingman Marial Shayok picked up an offer from Marquette earlier this week. The four-star prospect also holds offers from Minnesota, Rutgers, West Virginia and LaSalle.

• Oklahoma became the latest school to offer Terry Larrier. The Phelps (Pa.) forward also visited Penn State this week after seeing Minnesota unofficially last month and is scheduled to visit Rutgers and Seton Hall next week.

• A very busy week for Villanova, which included a commitment from 2015 Pitman (N.J.) PF Tim Delaney, also included a scholarship offer for Christ the King (N.Y.) 2016 swingman Rawle Alkins.
