#AskCoachB: Owens could move up

Want to ask ESPN RecruitingNation national recruiting director Paul Biancardi a question about basketball recruiting? Tweet it to @PaulBiancardi using the hashtag #AskCoachB.

Alex Owens is ranked No. 41 in our ESPN 60, and it is a very favorable position to be in. I have seen Owens quite a bit, and he is a rebounding specialist. He has a strong wide body with tremendous hands and improving footwork. He does a great job of going after the missed shot on both ends of the floor. He scores inside with the drop-off pass or put backs on second-chance points. But Owens still needs to learn how to post up and make a move against a set defense, which will come with coaching and practice. He is rated as the seventh-best power forward in the Class of 2015, which is exceptionally strong at that position. Players such as Ivan Rabb, Ben Simmons, Carlton Bragg and Cheick Diallo are having fantastic seasons. For now, Owens is in a good spot. When we update our rankings, his name will be discussed, but he has to get in better physical condition, develop a low-post game and help make his team win if he is to move up.

City of Palms Classic recap

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The City of Palms Classic is, in my opinion, the best high school basketball tournament in the country. The field is always strong, the games are generally highly competitive, and the crowd is involved and boisterous. The 41st edition of the tournament was extremely good and full of high-level talent.

Here were some of the best performances from this year's City of Palms.

Best Player
Isaiah Whitehead (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lincoln)
2014, SG/PG, 6-foot-3, 200 pounds
Signed with Seton Hall
Whitehead is much improved and is one of the best guards in the country. He plays like a man among boys, and his ability to make plays for himself and others really sets him apart. He is more than capable of playing point guard at the next level and beyond. He averaged more than 25 points per game at the City of Palms and rarely forced anything while leading Lincoln to a fifth-place finish.

Scout's take: Henriquez to UCF

ESPN 100 shooting guard Adonys Henriquez (Orlando, Fla./Orlando Christian Prep) made a verbal commitment to Central Florida this weekend, marking the fourth player to commit to head coach Donnie Jones in the last two weeks.

The hot streak for UCF began with ESPN 60 power forward Alex Owens (Orlando, Fla./Oak Ridge) on Sept. 17, grew a day later with junior point guard Corey Sanders (Lakeland, Fla./IMG Academy), continued to gain momentum late last week with 2015 power forward Chad Brown (Deltona, Fla./Deltona) and was punctuated by Henriquez's decision on Sunday morning.

Why he committed: Henriquez was previously committed to Miami and continued to make staying close to home a priority during his second time through the process. He picked UCF over Butler, Vanderbilt, Minnesota and Creighton.

Central Florida got on the board early in the class of 2015 when PF Alex Owens (Orlando, Fla./Oak Ridge), the No. 44 junior in the ESPN 60, committed to the Knights on Tuesday.

He chose UCF over Louisville, Florida and Alabama.

Why did Owens commit to the Knights over more established programs? Let's break it down.

Editor's note: This is the latest entry in Dave Telep's July Road Trip blog. Throughout the month, Dave will check in each day he's on the road while covering some of the biggest basketball recruiting events in the country. He'll let you know where he is, offer some highlights of the day and give a quick look at what's next.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- It was a quick stay in Disney for me this week. Basically, I was in town to help broadcast a pair of AAU Super Showcase games on ESPNU and then pick off a few guys during pool play of the AAU Nationals whom I needed to see.

Mission accomplished.

So here are my final thoughts from the Super Showcase.
