Terps recruit on fire at UA Summer Jam
By Reggie Rankin
MILWAUKEE -- Maryland-bound 2014 shooting guard Romelo Trimble (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) has had the hot hand for DC Assault this entire week at the Under Armour Summer Jam presented by NY2LA Sports.
Maryland-bound 2014 guard Romelo Trimble is a powerful backcourt player with a sweet shooting stroke.
Trimble, the No. 45 prospect in the ESPN 100, has been all business and has played with off-the-charts confidence. He has not only been consistent but has also made big shots when his team has needed a basket.
The four-star recruit has made spot-up 3s on the break and has spaced to the vision of the passer on dribble penetration, from ball reversals and coming off screens. Trimble is in a big-time shooting groove, and the opposing guards here in Milwaukee are paying the price attempting to defend him.
Trimble's mid-range pull-up has been deadly as well. He can bounce into his jumper with a one or two rhythm dribbles going right or left, and his stroke is smooth and flawless. Trimble snaps off his shot on great balance and finishes it with a posing, exaggerated follow-through.
The 6-foot-2 and about 180-pound guard has a strong upper body for his size and can also help at the point in a pinch. However, Trimble is clearly a shooting guard who can break the game open with his shot-making ability from all over the floor.
Terrapins coach Mark Turgeon has been front and center and has to be excited to already have Trimble in the fold for 2014. Trimble is a local star in the D.C. area who is also a well-respected young man.
