Parker is USA hoops athlete of the year

ESPNU 60 SF Jabari Parker (Chicago/Simeon) has been named the USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year for all men's basketball teams. The award was selected by the USA Basketball Staff and Committee, according to Jabari's father, Sonny Parker, and confirmed by USA Basketball assistant director for the men's national team B.J. Johnson.

The super skilled and versatile Parker, who is the top-ranked junior in the country and at the top of every elite programs recruiting list, is the award's youngest recipient. Oklahoma Thunder's Kevin Durant won the award in 2010 and North Carolina's James McAdoo won it in 2009.

"This award is really big, being the youngest to win it is special because of all the great players that have played in USA Basketball, my hard work is paying off," said Parker, who led the U16 USA team to a gold medal this summer.
