ESPN 100 SG Wayne Selden likes OSU

8/20/2012

Wayne Selden (Boston, Mass./Tilton) has cut his list down to six and will trim it to five before taking official visits.

Those schools for the five-star Selden, in no particular order: Florida, Kansas, Missouri, Ohio State, Syracuse and UCLA. Ranked No. 13 in the ESPN 100, Selden poses matchup problems as a 6-foot-5 shooting guard.

Here’s what he had to say about each school:

Florida: “I like them because they have great guard play. They have a great up-tempo offense and Billy Donovan is a great coach that has won championships.”

Ohio State: “I like Ohio State because they run an NBA offense and are great at player development. Thad Matta is a heck of a coach. Winning schools that are always competing for national championships always stand out.”

UCLA: “[Coach] Ben Howland does a great job of developing his guards. They’re a big program on the rise.”

Kansas: “I like Bill Self. He’s a great coach with a winning tradition and they have a great offensive tempo.”

Missouri: “They have a really fast style of play offensively and defensively. There are a few of my guys that go there [Alex Oriakhi and Dominique Bull went to Tilton] as well.”

Syracuse: “They always have great guard play. It’s a great place to be if you’re a guard.”

As for cutting the list down, Selden isn’t sure when to take official visits or even when to commit.

He does know that whoever gets him, will get a no-nonsense guard ready for action.

“I’m still talking with my family if I want to do November or sign in the spring,” Selden said. “I’m going to work hard and push everyone around me. I’m going to push myself.”

Right now, Selden says there is no leader among his six.

He recently reclassified from the Class of 2014 back to 2013.
