St. John's lands A&M transfer Jamal Branch

St. John's head coach Steve Lavin landed a former ESPNU 100 point guard on Monday when Jamal Branch (Humble, Texas/Grace Prep) decided to transfer from Texas A&M, according to the New York Daily News.

Branch played in 11 games for the Aggies this season, averaging 4.2 points and 2.5 assists in 18.6 minutes per game. He decided on the Red Storm over Maryland, Marquette, UCLA and Arizona.

Branch becomes the first newcomer for the 2012-13 season for Lavin and his staff. Over the last three months St. John's has lost verbal commitments from power forward Ricardo Gathers(LaPlace, La./Riverside Academy) and shooting guard Darrick Wood (Washington D.C./Bridgton Academy).
