The University of Rhode Island announced on Thursday that junior college guard Xavier Munford (Hillside, N.J./Iowa Western C.C.) has signed with new head coach Danny Hurley.

Munford played his high school basketball at St. Benedict's (Newark, N.J.) for Hurley in 2010 where he helped the Grey Bees to a 26-1 record. He chose the Rams after visiting the campus last weekend.

"Xavier is an athletic guard who is both a scorer and a lockdown defender," Hurly said. "I have some familiarity with Xavier from out time at St. Benedict's and he has developed into an outside shooting threat over his past two seasons at the junior college level."

Munford joins high school commitments Jordan Hare (Saginaw, Mich./Arhtur Hill H.S.) and Mike Aaman (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan H.S.) as well as Division I transfers Gilvydas Biruta (Rutgers) and Jarelle Reischel (Rice) for Hurley.
