Oklahoma adds two over weekend

4/16/2012

Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger landed commitments from two players over the weekend, according to ESPN's Sooner Nation.

Joining the Sooners in the fall will be junior college power forward D.J. Bennett (Ottumwa, Iowa/Indian Hills C.C.) and Gonzaga transfer Ryan Spangler (Blanchard, Okla.). Both players were on campus this weekend for official visits.

"We have both committed," Spangler told the site. "It was great talking with D.J. this entire weekend. We're looking to build on something special with the Sooners."

Bennett will be eligible immediately while Spangler must sit out the 2012-13 season due to NCAA rules.

The 6-foot-8 Bennett chose the Sooners over Arkansas.

Spangler averaged 2.5 points and 2.4 rebounds in 22 games as a freshman this past season at Gonzaga. He said the opportunity to play closer to home was the main reason for his transfer.

"I can only imagine how happy my friends and family are," he said. "I'm sure word is spreading right now. I'm excited to get a chance to play in front of them again."

Kruger will also welcome five other newcomers next season, including guard Buddy Hield (Bel Aire, Kans./Sunrise Christian), guard Je'lon Hornbeak (Arlington, Texas/Grace Prep), forward Jarion Henry (Dallas/La Jolla Prep), guard Isaiah Cousins (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon) and preferred walk-on forward C.J. Cole (Sperry, Okla./Sperry).
