Scout's Take: Donovan Mitchell to Cards

ESPN 100 shooting guard Donovan Mitchell (New York, NY/Brewster Academy, NH) has committed to the Louisville Cardinals while on his official visit over finalists Boston College, Florida State, Providence and Villanova. He gives head coach Rick Pitino his third four star prospect in the class of 2015.

Let's checkout what Mitchell will bring to the Cardinals.

Why he committed: Mitchell will have an opportunity to excel at both the shooting guard and point guard position. The opportunity to win a National Championship is a very realistic goal.

What he brings: Mitchell -- at 6-foot-3, 200-plus pounds -- is a strong, physical attacking shooting guard. He is a highlight finisher on the break and his ability to make plays off the bounce is exciting in the half court set as well. Mitchell has excellent touch and body control as he attacks the rim and has the strength to finish through contact with ease. He also does a good job leading the fast break and finding the open man when he draws multiple defenders. He is an improved shooter that has a nice handle and good court vision that allows him to help at the point. Mitchell also can defend both guard positions successfully. His motor, energy and effort on both ends of the floor is a treat to watch.

How he fits: Mitchell will bring great backcourt versatility to the Cardinals. He can make plays within the half court offense with power drives and beat defenders with quick first step slashes. He will also be able to slide over and help at the point guard position flawlessly. Mitchell will be an asset in the press, man and zone defenses because he will be able to make plays on and away from the ball while playing multiple positions. Mitchell will be a tone setter with his consistent energy, effort and sense of urgency on both ends of the floor.

Who he reminds us of: Mitchell who runs with The City (NY) on the travel team circuit reminds us at times of a cross between Dion Waiters, Dwayne Wade and Tony Allen who his rim attacking mentality, abilty to score off the bounce and defensive presence no ft to mention his great motor and intensity.

How the class is shaping up: Mitchell is the second ESPN 100 performer joining SF Deng Adel who brings great size and skill to the wing position. Add PF Ray Spalding who is oozing with potential and the Cardinals not only addressed their needs but have three of the hottest prospects in the country after all three had an excellent spring and summer.
