Fast-rising four-star power forward Makinde London (Thompson's Station, Tenn./Montverde Academy) ended his recruitment today when he committed to Xavier over VCU, Miami and Mississippi State.

This is an excellent pick up for Xavier coach Chris Mack. London is a talented, skilled forward who has grown to 6-foot-10 recently with his best playing days ahead.

London, who visited the Musketeers back on Sept. 13, developed a lasting impression that led to his commitment.

Scout's take: Edwards to Purdue

Purdue coach Matt Painter received some good news on Saturday when ESPN 100 small forward Vincent Edwards (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown), ranked No. 83 overall, committed to the Boilermakers over offers from Dayton, Michigan and Xavier.

"I picked Purdue because it feels like home and I am very comfortable here," wrote Edwards via text from Saturday's Notre Dame-Purdue football game.

This is a great pickup for Matt Painter, landing the second-best player from the state of Ohio. Only Ohio State commit Jae'Sean Tate ranks higher.

Buckeyes land 2015 PG A.J. Harris

Junior point guard A.J. Harris (Dayton, Ohio/Dunbar) put an end to his recruitment on Monday night with a verbal pledge to Ohio State, multiple sources are reporting.

The four-star prospect chose the in-state Buckeyes over Dayton, Illinois State and Xavier, among others. He is the first recruit for head coach Thad Matta and his staff from the 2015 class.

Clemson lands first 2014 commitment

Point guard Gabe DeVoe (Shelby, N.C./Shelby) became Clemson's first commitment from the 2014 class when the senior picked the Tigers on Tuesday, the Shelby Star reported.

DeVoe held offers from Marshall, UNC-Wilmington, Richmond, Charlotte and Xavier.

"The recruiting process gets a little aggravating," he told the paper. "So I decided I was going to get it out of the way. Now I won't have to worry about anything, you can just go enjoy your senior year.

DeVoe averaged 20.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists as a junior last season.

Xavier adds Bulgarian forward

ESPN 100 SF Brandon Austin (Philadelphia/Imhotep Charter) verbally committed to Providence on Monday, ESPN.com has learned.

The 6-foot-6 wing originally committed to Penn State as a junior before re-opening his recruitment last summer. He also held offers from Connecticut, Georgetown, Rutgers, Temple and Xavier.

Three-star small forward Kamall Richards (Henryville, Pa./South Kent) will play in the Atlantic-10 after committing to Xavier on Tuesday. He announced his decision on www.sny.tv.

The 6-foot-6 Richards chose the Musketeers over Penn State, St. Joe's, Duquesne and Seton Hall.

"The coaching staff was really cool, the players, the guys are real cool," he said. "It's a nice campus, nice city, I liked everything about it really."

Richars is the first recruit for Xavier and head coach Chris Mack in the 2013 class.

Vikings nab PF DeMonte Flannigan

Cleveland State landed a verbal commitment from two-star power forward DeMonte Flannigan (Richmond Heights, Ohio/Villa Angela-St. Joseph) on Sunday, according to the News-Herald.

The 6-foot-8 Flannigan chose the Vikings over DePaul, Wisconsin, St. Bonaventure, Xavier and Akron, among others.

"Every school who offered wanted me," he told the paper. "The biggest difference is Coach (Gary) Waters said he needs me. He wants me to come in and be a big part of what they are doing there."

Flannigan is the first recruit from the 2013 class for Cleveland State.

SMU gets first 2013 recruit in Brown

New Southern Methodist head coach Larry Brown landed his first verbal commitment from the the 2013 class on Sunday.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, shooting guard Sterling Brown (Chicago/Proviso East) pledged to the Mustangs. Brown held offers from Miami, Missouri, Xavier, Memphis, Northwestern, Providence and DePaul.

"This was just the best fit for him," his father, Chris, told the paper. "He feels he can learn, grow and develop as a player under Larry Brown. He's comfortable there. It's a great atmosphere there and a great opportunity for him."

Larry Brown coached Sterling's older brother Shannon Brown with the Charlotte Bobcats in the NBA.

Miami head coach Jim Larranaga landed his second 2013 commitment on Friday with a pledge from shooting guard Davon Reed (Princeton, N.J./Princeton Day), ESPN.com has confirmed.

The 6-foot-5 Reed made his official visit to the U last weekend. He also held offers from Wake Forest, Cincinnati, Memphis and Xavier. He will join guard Deandre Burnett (Miami, Fla./Massanutten Military) in Miami in 2013.
