Brewster guard picks hometown school

Point guard Martez Harrison (Kansas City, Mo./Brewster Academy) has decided to play his college basketball in his hometown and committed to the University of Missouri-Kansas City, according to the Kansas City Star.

Harrison, who spent this past season at prep powerhouse Brewster Academy in Wolfboro, N.H., chose UMKC over St. Bonaventure and Southern Illinois among "about 15-20 offers," his coach at Brewster, Jason Smith, told the paper.

The 5-foot-10 point guard played at University Academy in Kansas City as a senior in 2011-12.

Rutgers adds juco wing Chris Griffin

According to a report on www.mycentraljersey.com, Rutgers landed a commitment on Monday from junior college small forward Chris Griffin (Tallahassee, Fla./Wabash Valley College).

Griffin played one season at Murray State in 2010-11, averaging 2.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in 8.7 minutes. He chose the Scarlet Knights over Florida Gulf Coast, St. Bonaventure, Miami and San Francisco.

"I'm a big guard -- I can shoot it, pass it, I can do everything," he told the site. "A lot of my strengths are things Coach (Mike) Rice is looking for."

Griffin joins PG Shane Rector (Bronx, N.Y./South Kent School) and SF Craig Brown (North Miami Beach, Fla./Broward Community College) in Rutgers' incoming class.

Hofstra lands post-grad SF Rich Williams

Class of 2013 small forward Rich Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./Vermont Academy) verbally committed to Hofstra on Monday, according to ESPN RecruitingNation coordinator Adam Finkelstein.

Williams graduated from Transit Tech (N.Y.) last spring and decided a post-graduate year would serve him well from a recruiting standpoint. He chose the Pride over St. Bonaventure, Kent State and St. Peter's.

The Evansville Aces received two verbal commitments on Monday, according to the Courier Press.

6-foot-3 guard Duane Gibson (Cleveland/Villa Angela-St. Joseph) and 5-foot-11 guard Jaylon Brown (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) both pledged to the Missouri Valley Conference school.

Catamounts gain guard Kiefer Douse

Point guard Kiefer Douse (Brampton, Ont./Lee Academy) ended his recruitment earlier this week with a verbal pledge to Vermont, according to the Burlington Free Press.

The Canadian chose the Catamounts over SMU, Clemson, Florida Atlantic and St. Bonaventure.

"I'm a pass-first guy and like to get everyone involved on the court," he told the paper. "I'd like to think I can make an impact [at Vermont] ASAP."

Douse joins small forward Kurt Steidl (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) in UVM's class of 2013.

Vikings nab PF DeMonte Flannigan

Cleveland State landed a verbal commitment from two-star power forward DeMonte Flannigan (Richmond Heights, Ohio/Villa Angela-St. Joseph) on Sunday, according to the News-Herald.

The 6-foot-8 Flannigan chose the Vikings over DePaul, Wisconsin, St. Bonaventure, Xavier and Akron, among others.

"Every school who offered wanted me," he told the paper. "The biggest difference is Coach (Gary) Waters said he needs me. He wants me to come in and be a big part of what they are doing there."

Flannigan is the first recruit from the 2013 class for Cleveland State.

Oakland lands in-state forward

Class of 2013 Power forward Jalen Hayes (Lansing Mich./Sexton) has given Oakland University coach Greg Kampe a verbal commitment and Hayes is very excited about his pledge to the Golden Grizzlies over offers from Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, St. Bonaventure and Akron.

"I am very comfortable with the coaching staff especially coach Kampe and coach Saddie Washington," he told ESPN.com. "Oakland was the best and perfect fit. The playing style, offense, academics. Everything was a good fit and connected together well."

At 6'7 and about 200 pounds Hayes is long and skilled with terrific upside. He will be a good fit in the Oakland dribble-drive style offense. Hayes will be a combination forward in this type of system and potentially cause match up problems.

Lamar lands two Indy kids

The Indianapolis Star reported on Friday that Lamar head coach Pat Knight landed verbal commitments from two area players, wing guard Jason Smith (Manual H.S.) and point guard Donnell Minton (Northwest H.S.).

According to the paper, Knight's legendary father Bob Knight helped seal the deal with a phone call to both players.

"I really didn't say much," Minton told the paper. "He told me that he thought I'd be a good fit for the program and said he hoped he'd see me at Lamar. It was really all him."

Smith had interest from Gardner-Webb and St. Bonaventure while Minton was being courted by Cleveland State. They'll join guard Keilan Blanks (Columbia, Tenn.) in Knight's 2012 class.
