Four-star guard Robert Johnson (Richmond, Va./Benedictine Prep) has come a long way in the past year. This time a year ago, he had only some mid-major scholarship offers, and he fondly recalls his first offer.

"I still remember when (UNC Greensboro head coach) Wes Miller offered me a scholarship,” Johnson said. “I was so excited."

These days, Johnson is one of the fastest-rising and most sought-after recruits in the country thanks to strong performances this spring and summer on the travel circuit playing for Boo Williams, the powerful AAU program out of Virginia.

LAS VEGAS -- The underclassmen took center stage during Thursday's action at the adidas 64. Despite the sweltering heat in Vegas, scouts and coaches were treated to the dazzling talents of ESPN 25 prospect Josh Jackson (Detroit, Mich./Consortium) and ESPN 60 PF Carlton Bragg. Jackson has the physical tools and a feel for the game that is rare to see for a player of his youth, leading some in Michigan to call him the best prospect the state has produced since Chris Webber and Jalen Rose. Right now I would agree with that assessment but time will tell if it comes to fruition.

Not to be upstaged by the young guys, Florida commit Brandone Francis was also impressive for the senior class.

Here's a closer look at the top stars on Day 2 in Las Vegas.

SG Detrick Mostella switches commitment

July, 3, 2013
Class of 2013 shooting guard Detrick Mostella (Decatur, Ala./La Lumiere) will not play for Oklahoma State after all, switching his commitment to Pittsburgh on Tuesday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Mostella made his choice following a visit to Pitt's campus.

"They told me they needed a shooting guard, and that made my decision right there," he told the paper. "They have everything but a shooting guard (in this recruiting class). I know I can come in right away and help them."

Mostella, a four-star prospect, joins ESPN 100 PF Mike Young (McKeesport, Pa./St. Benedict's) along with PG Josh Newkirk (Raleigh, N.C./Word of God), SF Jamel Artis (Baltimore/Notre Dame Prep) and C Joseph Uchebo (Chipola, Fla./Chipola College) in the Panthers' incoming freshman class. Pitt will begin its first season in the ACC this year.

With the switch, Pittsburgh moves to No. 26 in the 2013 class rankings, while Oklahoma State drops to No. 39.

The 6-foot-6 Rowan averaged 22.6 points as a freshman at Lincoln Park last season. He was garnering early interest from Ohio State and North Carolina.

"He's 6-6 and can really shoot. That's what people like about him," Lincoln Park athletic director Mike Bariski told the paper.

Rowan is the first recruit from the 2016 class for the Panthers.

Juco center Uchebo picks Pittsburgh

May, 7, 2013
According to multiple reports, Pittsburgh landed a commitment from junior college center Joseph Uchebo (Nigeria/Chipola College) on Monday.

Uchebo is a former ESPN 100 prospect who originally signed with NC State as a senior at Word of God (Raleigh, N.C.) Christian Academy in 2011 before opting for the junior college route.

Uchebo joins an incoming Pittsburgh class that features ESPN 100 PF Mike Young (McKeesport, Pa./St. Benedict's), PG Josh Newkirk (Raleigh, N.C./Word of God) and SF Jamel Artis (Baltimore/Notre Dame Prep). Pittsburgh will join the ACC next season.

Pitt adds SF Jamel Artis

April, 13, 2013
Pittsburgh head coach Jamie Dixon landed a verbal commitment from senior small forward Jamel Artis (Baltimore/Notre Dame Prep) on Friday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Artis made his decision while on an official visit Friday.

"Pitt was my main school," Artis told the paper. "Everybody else was just recruiting me, saying they loved my game but never really put in the effort. Pitt came to see me a couple times. I felt the love from them."

Artis held offers from Connecticut, George Mason and South Florida. He joins ESPN 100 power forward Mike Young (McKeesport, Pa./St. Benedict's) along with point guard Josh Newkirk (Raleigh, N.C./Word of God) in the Panthers' 2013 class.

New Southern Methodist head coach Larry Brown landed a verbal pledge from junior college center Yanick Moreira (South Plains College) on Wednesday, according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.

The native of Angola chose the Mustangs over Baylor, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M and Oregon.
