Kellen McCormick picks WMU

The Kalamazoo Gazette reported late Wednesday night that 6-foot-8 forward Kellen McCormick (West Bloomfield, Mich.) has verbally committed to Western Michigan.

McCormick, who participated in June's NBPA Top 100 Camp, chose the Broncos over Miami (Ohio) and Oakland. He cited the fact that WMU coach Steve Hawkins was the first to offer him as a main reason for his decision.

"He (Hawkins) said it was the best news he's heard in a while," McCormick told the paper. "He's a very happy man. I was the first one that he's offered in this class, so he's been recruiting me for a long tome. I think it was probably a relief to him, as well as me. Because the recruiting stuff is very, very stressful."

McCormick is the fourth recruit in 2012 for Hawkins. He joins small forward Taylor Perry (Rochester, Mich.), point guard Jared Klein (Otsego, Mich.) and power forward Connar Tava (Warren, Mich.).
