REDONDO BEACH, Calif. -- The inaugural Battle at the Beach, orchestrated by Etop Udo-Ema, was launched at Redondo Union High School this week and to sum it up in a few words -- it made quite a splash. Start with the premier backcourt players in attendance like Jordan McLaughlin, Quentin Snider and Devearl Ramsey, then toss in a stellar hospitality room and the day was quite profitable from all angles. The frontcourt talent was scarce, but there were a number of talented perimeter prospects who exhibited elite level skills and savvy.

New Mexico lands three-star junior

New Mexico head coach Craig Neal landed a verbal commitment from Class of 2015 small forward Dane Kuiper (Tempe, Ariz./Corona Del Sol) on Sunday night. Kuiper announced the news on his Twitter account.

Kuiper is the first recruit from the junior class for Neal, who was hired in April. Arizona State and Creighton were also involved in his recruitment.

Juco SF commits to ASU

Arizona State landed a commitment from junior college small forward Sai Tummala (Phoenix/Salt Lake C.C.) on Thursday.

The 6-foot-7 Tummala announced his decision via his Twitter account. "Committed to be an Arizona State Sun Devil! I am extremely blessed to have this opportunity," he wrote.

Tummala will have three years of eligibility remaining in Tempe. He joins SG Chance Murray (Los Angeles/Price) and SF Egor Koulechov (Weston, Fla./The Sagemont School) in the Sun Devils' incoming class.

Arizona nabs ESPN 60 Jackson-Cartwright

ESPN.com has confirmed on Sunday that top 60 point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright (Los Angeles/Loyola) has verbally committed to Arizona.

UNLV nabs California guard Kendall Smith

Senior shooting guard Kendall Smith (Antioch, Calif./Deer Valley) announced his decision to attend UNLV on Friday.

Smith Tweeted out his decision after contemplating offers from Connecticut, UCLA, Arizona State and San Diego State, among others.

"It's official for the next 4 years I will be apart of the UNLV basketball program. I am a Running Rebel now! #LetsRun," he wrote.

The 6-foot-2 Smith officially visited UNLV for their game against Chicago State on Thursday. He joins ESPN 100 power forward Christian Wood (Palmdale, Calif./Findlay College Prep) and junior college transfer Jelan Kendrick (Marietta, Ga./Indian Hills C.C.) in the Rebels' 2013 class.

The California Golden Bears nabbed a verbal commitment on Tuesday from senior center Kameron Rooks (San Marcos, Calif./Mission Hills). The 7-footer took to his Twitter account to announce his decision.

Price High shooting guard Chance Murray (Los Angeles) verbally committed to Arizona State on Sunday, according to sources.

California, Colorado, San Diego State and Oregon were among those after Murray.

"Murray is a heady scoring guard with good size, length and athletic ability," ESPN's Paul Biancardi said. "Inside the arc is where he is best at the moment, as he is a young senior turning 17 in November.
