Scoring PG Simmons gaining interest

12/12/2012

The top unsigned senior in Ohio is Jaaron Simmons (Kettering, Ohio/Archbishop Alter), a point guard who has continued to improve at a steady rate and is off to a stellar start after dropping 38 points in a 73-61 season-opening road win at Miami Valley School.

Simmons is an excellent athlete and can get buckets in a hurry in addition to feeding his teammates to keep them involved. He is a confident scorer and plays the entire game in attack mode.

"I am best at playing up-tempo, pushing the ball, getting into the lane and making plays in the midrange areas for myself and teammates,” Simmons said. “My pull-up jumper has really improved. I have to continue to work on my jumper, be more vocal and pressure the ball on defense."

Simmons has been a team player and a go-to guy for Alter each winter since coming on to the squad as a freshman.

"Jaaron has made big shots since he was a freshmen and has done everything I have asked him to do and more,” says Alter head coach Joe Petrocelli, who is entering his 49th varsity season on the sidelines and coaches on a home court that bears his name.

Simmons has some offers and is getting calls from interested programs almost daily.

"Right now I have offers from Western Michigan, Hofstra and Wichita State,” he said. “Tulane and Fairfield have [also] recently called.”

Simmons is poised to have a great senior year and he will be in full control because the ball will find his hands at critical times of the game. He is very capable of making the right play at crunch time to help his team be successful. Simmons’ stock is certainly rising along with his level of play.
