After watching Schuyler Rimmer play at this summer’s AAU Nationals in Orlando, the best way to describe him is physical. His low post game is rapidly improving as he scores well with his left hand and is becoming more comfortable and confident with his back to the basket.
His intense nature and aggressive approach helps him stay on the floor and produce regularly. What Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins will like most about Rimmer is that he understands who he is and where he is most effective on the floor.(On the defensive end, he constantly works to be in the right position to defend his man or be in help-side defense and isn’t afraid to sacrifice his body to take a charge. He is a mobile big who moves with effort and energy, but isn't blessed with great speed or lateral quickness.
Understanding his physical limitations, he compensates by playing angles defensively on his closeouts and shot contests. He is most efficient from around 15 feet and inside the painted area. The bottom line with Rimmer is because of his work ethic and size, he will continue to improve.
Stanford’s 2012 recruiting class was outstanding headlined by SF Rosco Allen (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman). Add in Rimmer as well as brothers Marcus and Malcolm Allen (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial) and the program could be headed for a rise in the Pac 12.
