With all the talk about the great freshmen and sophomores in college basketball, a number of seniors on quality teams are being slightly overlooked.

While every coach in the country would love to have the one-and-done guy with lottery-pick talent, that formula doesn’t always work. Sometimes college players who have been through the grind and the ups and downs of four seasons of college basketball are just as, if not better, suited to help a team achieve postseason success. In fact, most of the players in this ranking of my Sweet 16 seniors have morphed from role players into stars over their careers. They have been asked by their coaches to contribute in different ways over time.

Here is my ranking of the top 16 seniors in college basketball:

1. Doug McDermott, F, Creighton Bluejays

Yes, the two-time All-American is still playing for the Bluejays, and yes, it is more of the same with him this season. He is the best senior in the country right now, if not the best player overall. In addition, he might be the best shooter in college basketball.
