NBA Rumors: Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards hold the No. 3 pick in this month's draft, but with no obvious franchise players available at that spot this year, they may join any number of teams that are looking to trade down from the top of the draft. Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times said on the radio this week that there is a rumor going around that the Wiz may trade that pick to the Milwaukee Bucks for forward Ersan Ilyasova. Fox Sports' Sam Amico has heard the same thing.

Georgetown forward Otto Porter is probably the safest pick in the 2013 NBA draft and he's expected to be one of the top selections. For that reason his agent, David Falk, will only allow him to work out for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards since they own picks 1-3 in the first round.

Rumor Central's Nick Borges wrote this morning that at least one report has the Minnesota Timberwolves possibly eyeing a trade partner for Derrick Williams, with the goal to move up in the draft to select athletic shooting guard Victor Oladipo.

With that in mind, what teams in the top five or six might be willing to pull of such a deal for Williams?

The anticipation of the 2013 NBA draft is getting crazier by the day. Otto Porter could very well Cleveland's pick at No. 1. There's no sure indication where Nerlens Noel will land, even though he's the top player on Chad Ford's Big Board. And then, of course, you also have to consider the rise of Victor Oladipo.

His impressive junior season punched his ticket into the NBA draft, but did anyone see this type of meteoric rise coming? The Indiana product has now moved all the way up to No. 2 on the updated Big Board, ahead of Porter and Ben McLemore.

The Cleveland Cavaliers own the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NBA draft and at this time no decision has been made on who they will take. Most draft pundits have the Cavs taking Kentucky's Nerlens Noel, but the choice might be a small forward from Georgetown.

ESPN's Chad Ford writes today that Washington would most likely select Nerlens Noel if it gets the No. 1 pick in tonight's NBA draft lottery.Along those lines, Ford believes the Wizards would take Otto Porter with the No. 2 pick, and Anthony Bennett if it lands pick No. 3.

More than likely, though, the Wiz will have either pick No. 8 or 9 -- barring the slim chances (right around 4 percent) that they move into the top 3 or that two or more other teams slotted 4-14 move up into the top 3. What players, then, would they target at pick 8 or 9? Lets take a look.

Jan Vesely took a big step backwards -- not forwards -- in his second season in the NBA this year. And if the No. 6 overall pick in 2011 has any chance to avoid the "bust" label, he's going to have to make huge strides from year two to year three.

That much has become painfully clear, already, in Washington.

For a late-bloomer like Otto Porter, whose stock soared late in the recruiting process and eventually led the Missouri native to head east to Georgetown, his rise is nothing short of remarkable. Now, with the NBA draft less than two months away, ESPN's NBA draft insider Chad Ford believes there's a chance that the multi-talented 6-foot-8 small forward has a chance to be the No. 2 overall pick.
