Saunders' plans for Wolves' offseason
By Tom Carpenter
New Minnesota Timberwolves president Flip Saunders has a lot on his plate, including hiring a new general manager. However, according to ESPN NBA Insider Chris Broussard, Saunders isn't going to make a hasty call on that matter, even though the draft is just a month away.
"Saunders is quietly doing background checks on potential GM candidates, but isn't planning to make a hire until after the draft, according to sources," Broussard wrote
One decision for Saunders apparently has already been made for him, as it sounds like coach Rick Adelman won't be leaving the team, despite his wife's health issues.
"Coach Rick Adelman has told Saunders he wants to coach the Timberwolves next season," Broussard added, "so don't expect to see a coaching change."
With no GM in place prior to the draft all of that responsibility will fall on Saunders' shoulders.
"As far as personnel, Saunders is hoping to add shooters to the Timberwolves' roster to maximize the passing ability of Ricky Rubio," said Broussard.
ESPN NBA Insider Amin Elhassan believes that Maryland center Alex Len could make for a nice pairing with Rubio:

"Len is a skilled 7-footer with a ton of potential. His progress at Maryland was stymied by a lack of competent guard play, but that won't be a problem playing with a passer such as Rubio, who will look for him often. Additionally, it can't hurt to have other European teammates to make him more comfortable, particularly players such as Shved and Kirilenko."
