Will Spurs continue "hack-a-Bogut"?
By Joe Kaiser
San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich resorted to the "hack-a-Bogut" strategy, intentionally fouling Golden State center Andrew Bogut to send him to the foul line, in both of the first two games of the series.
Bogut shot 2-6 at the line in Game 1, and even after the 7-footer hit a pair of free throws in Game 2 it didn't stop the Spurs from using the same strategy on the Warriors' next possession. The result? Two ugly free throws by Bogut that both badly missed the mark. Will the Spurs continue this strategy going forward?
That remains to be seen, and obviously Popovich isn't going to come out and say one way or another. But this much is clear, both teams know the option is there and have to plan accordingly.
“I haven't been shooting the ball well this season,” Bogut said, per the San Antonio Express-News. “You can't blame Popovich for doing that when I can't knock them down.”
