Why Wilcox vetoed trade to Wizards
By Nick Borges
Chris Wilcox would have been traded on Feb. 21, along with Leandro Barbosa for Jordan Crawford, but the veteran forward used his veto rights to stay with the Celtics. At that point the team subbed Jason Collins for Wilcox and the deal was done. Wilcox wants to prove that he can help the Celtics during the regular season and playoffs.
"The main thing is this team gave me a second chance at getting back into the league, so I wanted to come back here and prove my point, let them know that I appreciate everything they did for me so far," Wilcox told ESPNBoston.com.
Head coach Doc Rivers has insisted that Wilcox step up his play and since the trade deadline he's averaging 20.0 minutes, 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds. He's also shooting 76.5 percent from the floor.
Wilcox is set to be a free agent in July and the way he plays now and through the playoffs will determine if the Celtics offer him another contract for next season.
