Second year the charm for Williams?

By Nick Borges

Some observers think Derrick Williams, the No. 2 pick in the 2011 NBA draft, is a major disappointment, however his stats are better in 2012-13 than they were in 2011-12. That doesn't surprise Williams as he struggled in his first season at Arizona.

"Pretty much the same thing: Struggled my freshman year in college and sophomore year, I turned it around," Williams tells the Star Tribune. "I feel the same thing going on now. It really does stink that Kevin Love is out, but it really does help me with my confidence and trying to build it. It's tough playing behind an All-Star like that, but at the same time opportunities come around. This is the second time around that really helped my confidence a little more."

There has been some talk that the Wolves want to trade Williams and his improved play could make it easier for them to move the forward in the offseason.

Williams has been starting with Love out of the lineup and he'll stay in that role until Love's hand is fully healed.
