Ellis looking for a contender?

By Nick Borges

Monta Ellis can join the 2013 free agent market if he exercises the early termination option in his contract before July 1. Ellis will be leaving $11 million on the table if he does opt-out, however the guard and his agent believe he can get at least that amount annually now, instead of waiting until his contract expires in 2014.

According to Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld, some believe Ellis prefers to sign with a team who can be a serious contender. Ellis will get his second opportunity to participate in the post-season with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2013, however they will likely get knocked out in the first round. Ellis' first playoff experience occurred in 2007 with Golden State.

Most teams who are serious contenders to win the NBA title in the next few years already have full rosters or no salary cap room to match Ellis' salary demands, so he may have to re-sign with the Bucks if he's not willing to accept a pay cut.
