Injury costs Varejao $1 million

By Nick Borges

Cleveland Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao, averaging 14.1 points and a league leading 14.4 rebounds, had a very good chance to make the 2013 All-Star Game, but that won't happen after he suffered a split muscle in his right quadriceps.

The injury not only cost him the potential of playing in the game, but a huge bonus, too.

ESPN.com's Marc Stein tweeted: "Varejao's latest injury REALLY painful. All-Star berth AV was in line for pre-surgery, I'm told, would have triggered $1 million bonus in his contract.

There was some speculation the Cavs may consider trading him, but that's unlikely now due to the injury.

Varejao may not return to the Cavs active roster until early March.
