Why Carmichael won't camp with Mavs
By Nick Borges
Rookie free agent power forward Jackie Carmichael played with the Dallas Mavericks during the Las Vegas Summer League and he put up solid numbers. The team was hoping to sign him, however he chose to play in Spain this coming season with Bilbao Basket.
"Unfortunately, I think financially he was looking for a good opportunity overseas,'' Mavs general manager Gersson Rosas told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Tuesday. "So that’s why we couldn’t get him here, but we tried. We talked to his agent and unfortunately he had some good opportunities (overseas). But he's a great kid.''
The Mavs already have a full 15-man roster with all players having full salary protection for 2013-14, so it makes sense for Carmichael to get some guaranteed money and the opportunity to play a lot of minutes. That would not have happened with the Mavs. There is a chance the two sides may do something next year.
