Onuaku's chances to stick with Pelicans
By Nick Borges
The New Orleans Pelicans currently have 15 players under contract and general manager Dell Demps will likely sign a few more in time for the start of training camp.
"I think we will probably add a couple of guys before camp," Demps tells The Times-Picayune. "Coach (Monty) Williams and I, we talked about it (Monday). ... We'll probably add more guys for training camp with the opportunity to make the team."
Arinze Onuaku is one of the players under contract, after he signed a non-guaranteed, two-year deal, and he is willing to play either power forward or center if that means making the opening night roster.
"I'm going to try to bring whatever they need, be tough, be physical, be a guy that can defend and finish around the rim," Onuaku said. "I'm going to be whatever they need me to be down there."
The Pelicans are not a big team, weight-wise, which gives Onuaku (261 pounds) a legit chance to make the team heading into the regular season.
