C's cut Greene; roster set?
By Nick Borges
The Boston Celtics will open training camp in about two weeks and after Tuesday's transaction president of basketball ops Danny Ainge may have set the opening night roster for the coming season. According to ESPNBoston.com, the Celtics released forward Donte Greene after acquiring him in an earlier trade from Memphis.
By removing Greene and his $1.02 million non-guaranteed salary the Celtics are now under the luxury tax line by about $134,000. The Celtics have 14 players with fully guaranteed deals, so it's likely the team won't keep any of their training camp invitees when rosters are set just prior to the start of the 2013-14 regular season.
The Celtics have been a taxpayer the last two years and by avoiding it this coming season they won't be labeled as a "repeater" should they go over the line in 2014-15.
