Why Hibbert can't play for USA
By Nick Borges
Indiana Pacers starting center Roy Hibbert would have been invited to USA Basketball's mini-camp in July based on talent, however he is not eligible under FIBA rules because he played in one game for the Jamaican national team back in 2010. Hibbert could try to petition FIBA, but he will probably lose the appeal.
“If he were to somehow petition and to have it overturned for some reason, we would have interest,” USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo tells The Indianapolis Star. “But he would have to pursue that himself.”
Hibbert's father is Jamaican, which why he played for them three years ago.
