Wolves to meet with Pek's rep
By Nick Borges
Restricted free agent center Nikola Pekovic remains unsigned and sometime soon Minnesota Timberwolves president of basketball operations Flip Saunders is expected to meet with agent Jeff Schwartz to try to hammer out a new contract.
"My sense is, I think we both know he's going to be playing for our team next year," Wolves owner Glen Taylor told NBA TV on Thursday, according to the Star Tribune. "I think we're just dealing with an element time of here. I would tell you I'm very positive that he'll play for our team. What we have left isn't something that can't be resolved. There doesn't seem to be a lot of pressure on us or him to get it done."
None of the teams that still have cap room are going to tender an offer sheet to Pekovic, so he will either stay with the Wolves long-tern, accept his qualifying offer and become an unrestricted free agent in 2014, or sign with a team in Europe. According to the newspaper, the Wolves have offered $50 million over four years and that was turned down.
