O.J. Mayo's top suitors
By Joe Kaiser
For the second summer in a row, one of the big questions is where O.J. Mayo will wind up. Here's a look at some of teams rumored to be interested in the veteran shooting guard.
On Sunday, Sam Amick of USA Today wrote that Mayo's likely suitors include Utah, Milwaukee, Minnesota, Portland, Charlotte, Chicago and the Los Angeles Clippers. Mayo already met with the Timberwolves last night and is meeting with the Clippers today, and both teams could certainly use a young talent who can shoot the 3-pointer like Mayo did so well for Dallas this past season.
Here's why the Wolves and Clips are probably the two favorites to land him. Utah, Milwaukee and Charlotte aren't typically free agent destinations for players as sought after as Mayo figures to be this summer. Portland can't guarantee a starting spot in the rotation, unless it's willing to move Wesley Matthews to the bench in favor of Mayo. And Charlotte doesn't have the cap space to bring in Mayo.
If Mayo ends up with the Clippers, he'll start next to Chris Paul and Jamal Crawford will continue to star off the bench. It will also likely end the trade talks involving Eric Bledsoe-for-Arron Afflalo.
If May ends up in Minnesota, he'll join the team that originally drafted him before sending him to Memphis in the draft-day trade for Kevin Love in 2008.
