The Phoenix Suns announced via their Twitter feed Friday that they and head coach Alvin Gentry have "mutually agreed to part ways."

It's hardly a surprise this move is being made now. Gentry was a lame-duck coach in the final year of his contract, the Suns had lost seven of their previous eight games and their 13 wins on the season tie them with the New Orleans Hornets at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.

As for their next coach, Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports that assistants Elston Turner and Lindsey Hunter are the top candidates to take over on an interim basis.
