ESPN's Ramona Shelburne and Marc Stein report on Thursday that, at least for now, the Los Angeles Lakers are taking Pau Gasol off the trading block. But Gasol is not the only attractive trade chip the Lakers have.
As this tweet by LakersNation.com points out, the list of Lakers who are set to become free agents after the season is long: Gasol, Wesley Johnson, Xavier Henry, Steve Blake, Jordan Farmar, Chris Kaman, Shawne Williams, Jodie Meeks and Jordan Hill. Even Nick Young, who likely will turn down the $1.22 million option for next season, will probably be added to this list.
If the Lakers fall out of the ultra-competitive playoff picture out West -- and right now they are 2.5 games behind Denver for the No. 8 seed -- don't be surprised if they unload some of these expiring contracts for draft picks and/or players on multi-year deals who can be a part of the team's future.
