Blazers' bench still a concern?

11/14/2013

In Portland, the offseason additions of veterans Mo Williams and Dorell Wright, trade for 2012 lottery pick Thomas Robinson and selections of college stars C.J. McCollum and Allen Crabbe this past June were supposed to give Portland a much deeper bench heading into 2013-14. So far, that hasn't been the case.

Despite the Trail Blazers' hot 6-2 start, Wright is averaging only 14.5 minutes, and Robinson -- who had a breakout 15-point, 8-rebound game Wednesday against Phoenix -- is playing only 10.5 minutes a game. And with McCollum sidelined, the main impact newcomer has been Williams (9.1 PPG, 4.1 APG).

Surprisingly, the Blazers still rank last in the league in bench minutes, per hoopsstats.com, which might be bad for their playoff chances if they wear down again in the final month of the regular season. In the meantime, fantasy owners of Damian Lillard, Wesley Matthews, Nicolas Batum, LaMarcus Aldridge and Robin Lopez aren't complaining.
