Was Bynum a mistake for Detroit?

Will Bynum has quietly averaged between 14.1 and 26.5 minutes a season over the last five years in Detroit, earning the trust of the front office, and perhaps that is why he was rewarded with a two-year deal worth $5.75 million this summer.

It was a deal widely questioned at the time, given the amount the Pistons paid to keep him and the fact that Bynum's now 30 years old. But it also made some sense, with the Pistons light on point guards; At they time, they just had Brandon Knight. Now with Brandon Jennings and Chauncey Billups in the fold, though, Bynum could see very little time on the court unless Billups plays exclusively as an off-guard. Even then, Detroit has rookie Peyton Siva on the roster, a player who could have come in and done much of what Bynum is expected to do, and for a lot cheaper.
